The types of burns one could suffer in a car crash

i 3 In this article:

People can suffer a wide range of injuries in motor vehicle accidents. From broken bones to burns, the possible implications of an accident are serious, and they can have long-term effects. Burns are a common type of car crash injury, and they can be devastating. Some Arizona burn injury victims require long-term care and extensive medical treatment in order to move forward.

Burns and their effects

Some burns can be superficial, causing damage to the surface of the skin, yet they will heal over time with treatment and care. However, other types of burns can impact deeper layers of the skin and parts of the body, causing excruciating pain and permanent damage. Common types of burn injuries include:

  • First-degree burns – These burns only impact the outer layer of the skin, called the epidermis. While red and painful, there is typically no permanent damage, and they usually heal quickly.
  • Second-degree burns – These burns impact the epidermis and the dermis, the second layer of the skin. The wound may appear red, swollen and blistered, and it will be very painful.
  • Third-degree burns – These burns are serious, and they require immediate medical attention. They can damage the bones, tendons and muscles.

In a car accident, burns can be caused due to road rash, contact with chemicals or gas, or fire in the crashed vehicle.

Recover from burns

The appropriate treatment for burns depends on the type of burn, the part of the body affected and more. When a person suffers burns in a car crash caused by the negligent or reckless actions of another person, the victim has legal options available to him or her. Through a civil claim, it may be possible to recover losses and damages from the accident.
